Algonquin Voters Could See Electric Aggregation Referendum on March Ballot

A similar referendum was placed on the 2012 ballot and failed.

The Algonquin village board will vote this Tuesday on whether to again include a referendum question on the March 14 ballot asking residents to allow the village to negotiate lower electric rates, according to the Daily Herald.

A similar question was placed on the 2012 ballot and lost be less than a dozen votes, according to the article. The Daily Herald reports that if the referendum passes, the village could "negotiate a bulk purchase of electricity," which could mean savings "up to 27 percent for residential and small commercial property owners."
