Sheriff's Office Captures 'Top 10 Most Wanted' Fugitive

Carlos F. Mendez, 37, has been listed on McHenry County's Top 10 Most Wanted list since July 27, and is suspected of selling cocaine in the county.

One of McHenry County’s Top 10 Most Wanted fugitives is behind bars.

Carlos F. Mendez, 37, last known to be living in Rockford, was arrested at 6 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

Mendez was wanted for possession and delivery of cocaine. He is accused of distributing cocaine in the McHenry County area in April 2013.

The county’s Narcotics Unit Investigators on Aug. 15 obtained an arrest warrant for Mendez. The case was turned over to the Apprehension Unit for assistance with locating and apprehending Mendez, and a fugitive investigation began.

Initially, investigators believed Mendez fled McHenry County to avoid capture, and on July 27, 2013 he was added to the Sheriff’s Office Top 10 Most Wanted list.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Apprehension Unit, working with U.S. Marshals took Mendez into custody without incident in Souderton, Penn. on Nov. 7.

Mendez was transferred to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility waiting to be transferred to the McHenry County Correctional Facility. Bond for Mendez has been set at $100,000.
