Hampshire Man Hit and Killed While Crossing Road to Get Mail

Fred Bishop, 78, was struck by a car and killed Monday as he attempted to cross the road to reach his mailbox near Hampshire.

A 78-year-old man was killed Monday after he was hit by a car in unincorporated Hampshire Township. Fred Bishop, of the 44W600 block of Allen Road, was pronounced dead at the scene Nov. 18, the Northwest Herald reports. 

Bishop walked across Allen Road, west of Route 20, at about 5 p.m. Nov. 18, attempting to reach his mailbox when he was hit by a car traveling east. The driver of the car, a 28-year-old Hampshire man whose name was not released, was transported to Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin with minor injuries. No tickets have been issued, yet. An investigation into the crash is ongoing, the Herald reports.
