What is Generalized Anxiety Disorder? (GAD)

All of us worry about things like health, family, money or starting a new job. GAD sufferers have excessive and exaggerated worry and anxiety about non-issues. Daily living can be difficult if they’re constantly worry all day that maybe something will go wrong for them or their family that day. They can become consumed with these thoughts and become unable to living a healthy and normal life. Under all the symptoms listed, they are in a constant state of anxiousness to some degree. Symptoms of GAD • Easily startled/ jumpy • Irritable, sweating, light-headed/out of breath • Falling asleep or staying asleep is a problem • Possible unexplained pains, headaches, sore, stomach aches/acid stomach • Unable to relax • Twitching/trembling • Difficulty managing worry even when trying • Excessive trips to bathroom • Unease and anxiety about everyday little things • Focusing or concentration is a struggle This anxiety disorder is something that can be treated with medication and or Psychotherapy. Please don’t be put off by these two treatments. Medication doesn't mean you’re not in control of you. What it will allow is for you to regain control of your thoughts and behaviors. A therapist will assist you in something called Cognitive Behavior Therapy. It helps you to see cause and effect and provides the tools for you to calm and protect yourself in the future. Talk to someone you trust, someone that hold your hand to the Doctors office so you can have an evaluation. That’s step one. You can do it, even if it takes six attempts before you succeed. The end result is what matters. Let’s take that first step to making your life easier! You are worth it.
