Pat Szpekowski, APR, is president of PR Strategies & Communications, Inc. in Elgin, a full service advertising and public relations firm she founded in 1987. The company provides expertise for a variety of businesses in professional writing, creative graphic design, media relations, review, and placement, and candid event photography. She is also an award winning freelance writer for the Observer, the Diocese of Rockford weekly newspaper; Air Chicago Magazine; #Fly Washington; LAX Magazine; Kane/Kendall County Magazine; Best of the Fox Magazine; Northwest Quarterly Magazine.

An active community volunteer, she presently is the Community Leadership Board chair of the Amita Health Saint Joseph Hospital-Elgin, member of the Altrusa International Club of Elgin and Fideliter Club of Elgin and a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission of the Village of Algonquin.

She is first-vice president of Northern Illinois Newspaper Association; board member of the Northern Kane County Chamber of Commerce; current special events chair and past board member of the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce; co-founder and current board member of WIM Fox Valley, and former 18 year member of the Elgin Community College Foundation.

She is an accredited public relations professional (APR) since 1995 and Past President of the Suburban Chicagoland Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.

Pat is the recipient of several community and business awards, including the Elgin Area YWCA Leader Luncheon Marguerite Henry Award in Communications; the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce Membership Award; the Kane County Business Journal LUCI Award-Business Services; the State of Illinois Reaches Out Award for Community Volunteerism; the National Women in Management Charlotte Danstrom Award-Entrepreneur Service; the Sam Walton Business Leader Award; the Northern Kane County Chamber Business of the Year Award; and Lifetime Achievement Award from the Suburban Chicagoland Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.

In addition, Pat has received numerous professional awards in the areas of public relations, writing, and creative work. An accomplished writer, she has received first place honors from the National Federation of Press Women, the Illinois Woman’s Press Association; Northern Illinois Newspaper Association, and the Catholic Press Association. Clients have received honors for the record-breaking amount of press coverage that the firm has obtained for them.
