Russell Takes Coroner Race, Fellow GOP Win Many County Contests
Rob Russell wins the race with 56 percent of the vote. Here are some quotes and a recap of other Kane County races.
Republican Rob Russell won a contentious race Tuesday for Kane County coroner, according to unofficial election results. With 291 precincts reporting, Russell captured about 56 percent of the total vote. His opponent, Democratic candidate Tao Martinez, came in with 43 percent. "I’m very happy, very humbled for this opportunity," Russell told Patch. "I look forward to serving the citizens of Kane County for the next four years." Martinez said the campaign, his first time running for public office, was a challenging one. He congratulated all of tonight's winners on both sides of the political spectrum. Roskam Re-Elected to 6th Congressional District Seat
Peter Roskam wins the 2012 General Election in Illinois' 6th Congressional District.
U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL) won re-election in Illinois' 6th Congressional District Tuesday over Leslie Coolidge after getting 30,864 more votes than the his challenger, with all precincts reporting. Roskam said he plans to be a part of turning the economy around, and his work on the House Ways and Means Committee will be a platform to do so. "Our tax code is a disaster, and most Americans recognize that it’s a disaster," he said Tuesday at Arrowhead Golf Club in Wheaton. "And most Americans are very open to trying to reform the code." Dan Duffy Wins IL Senate Dist. 26 Seat
Incumbent Dan Duffy beat opponent Amanda Howland.
The Illinois State Senate District 26 seat will continue to be held by freshman senator Dan Duffy. Duffy beat opponent Amanda Howland by clinching 144,163 votes to Howland's 24,558. Duffy tells Patch reporters he had volunteers working on his campaign all year, and had 35 interns helping spread the word about his campaign platforms. He enjoyed campaigning, but is looking forward to getting back to work as a state senator. "I can't wait to get back to Springfield to attack this pension problem. We're adding $12.6 million of new pension liability every day. We need to come up with a bipartisan solution. Until we solve this pension problem there is no money for anything else," he said. Who Won Illinois' Congressional Races?

While many of northern Illinois' congressional races left little in the way of doubt, a few provided down-to-the-wire drama and competitiveness. Judy Biggert and Bill Foster were in a dead heat as Election Day approached, with Foster emerging victorious, according to unofficial totals. And Joe Walsh and Tammy Duckworth engaged in a bitter mudfest, with Walsh being tossed out by voters. Jesse Jackson Jr. didn't campaign at all, citing health issues, yet won-reelection, and Adam Kinzinger, Dan Lipinski, Danny Davis and Peter Roskam didn't feel they had to. One has to remember that the districts were all redrawn to (heavily) favor the Dems, so really no surprise on the congressional races. One has to shake their head, however when one who was booted out by his peers was voted back in, and another who has been absent for months was also re-elected. Put a corpse on the ballot with a -D next to his name and some will automatically vote for the corpse. more ›
Obama Supporters at McCormick: 'We Know He's Going to Win'
Obama supporters from around the suburbs and the city of Chicago waited to see the president during an election night rally in McCormick Place.
Waiting for the president to arrive at McCormick Place on election night, supporter Ignacio Ayala said he hoped the night would bring some of the same excitement as the rally in Grant Park in 2008. "I hope it's the same," said Ayala, who traveled from Plainfield. "That was big." More than 10,000 people are expected to rally around President Barack Obama as he and his campaign members await election results tonight. Like Ayala, other Obama supporters said they, too, were hopeful that the election results would bring cause for celebration.
