Woodstock Man Arrested on Heroin Related Charges

Edward Mercado, 39, of Woodstock was arrested by the McHenry County Sheriff's Department.

A Woodstock man already on probation was arrested last week on several drug-related charges after McHenry County Sheriff's deputies searched his home and allegedly found $500 worth of heroin. According to a sheriff's department press release, Edward Mercado, 39, 1811 Woodside Dr., was charged with: The Sheriff's Office received a tip that heroin was being sold from Mercado's residence, Sheriff Keith Nygren said. Sheriff’s deputies and the Woodstock Police Department's K-9 officer conducted a surveillance of the residence. After "obtaining enough probable cause," members of the sheriff's SWAT Team, Led Policing Unit, Narcotics Unit and Woodstock Police Department executed a search warrant on April 17 at 1811 Woodside Drive, Nygren said. …

More Victims Possible in Woodstock Man's Craigslist Rape Case

Charles R. Oliver, 44, of Woodstock has been charged with 10 counts of felony criminal sexual assault and is accused of sexually assaulting five women he met on Craigslist.

Woodstock resident Charles R. Oliver, 44, appeared Tuesday in McHenry County Court, where a judge increased his bond to $3 million after prosecutors said there could be 20 more victims in the case, the Northwest Herald reports. Oliver, of 407 W. Greenwood Ave., was arrested Jan. 28, and charged with multiple counts of felony criminal sexual assault, and one count of kidnapping and secretly confining someone, according to McHenry County Court records. The Woodstock man is accused of meeting women - some prostitutes or escorts - through personal ads on Craigslist and then raping them in his home, the Herald reports. And why would ANY woman (or man) post looking for sex (or however they word it) on Craigslist after the Craigslist murderer?!! Are people really that stupid? Woodstock Man Arrested for Shooting Bullet into Neighbor's House

Paul J. Csech, 22, was arrested Friday, March 15, 2013, and charged with reckless discharge of a firearm.

  Woodstock resident Paul J. Csech, 22, was charged Friday with reckless discharge of a firearm, a Class 4 felony, and criminal damage to property, a Class A misdemeanor, after he fired a gun in his apartment, the Northwest Herald reports. Csech, of 420 Vine St. unit 2, fired his Remington 30-06 rifle at about 2 a.m. March 15, toward his TV, the story said. The bullet traveled through the TV, the apartment wall, and ultimately entered a nearby house. The bullet broke the home's glass window and lodged into a piece of trim, the NWH story states. Csech has a valid Firearm Owners Identification Card, and was arrested and taken to the Woodstock Police Department. From there, he was transported to the McHenry County Jail, the story stated.

Woodstock High School Student Arrested for Bringing BB Gun to School

Gun was non-functioning, the NWH reports.

  A Woodstock High School student was arrested Wednesday afternoon after a staff member saw him holding a look-alike gun at about 12:30 p.m. in the school parking lot, the Northwest Herald reports.  Alejandro Duron, 18, 1621 Halma Lane, Woodstock, was charged with disorderly conduct, the Herald reports. Duron was showing a non-fuctional BB gun to another student. He never brought the gun into the school building, the story said. Duron was released after posting $120 bond. His is scheduled to appear in court March 7, the Herald reports.

Woodstock Man Died of Natural Causes

No foul play suspected in death of Woodstock man found dead on ground near the Woodstock Square on Monday morning, the Northwest Herald reports.

  John J. McManus, 70, of Woodstock died of natural causes, and no foul play is suspected in his death, the Northwest Herald reports. McManus was found dead at about 7 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21. His body was found on the ground near Calhoun and Hayward streets near the Woodstock Square, the Herald reported. The McHenry County Coroner's Office said McManus died from acute coronary thrombosis, a blockage of a coronary artery due to a blood clot, the Herald story states.

Elderly Man Found Dead in Woodstock

John J. McManus, 70, of 128 S. Hayward St., was found lying unresponsive on the ground Monday morning in Woodstock, the Northwest Herald reports.

  A 70-year-old man was found dead at about 7 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, near Calhoun and Hayward streets in Woodstock, the Northwest Herald reports. Woodstock Police Department was called to the area near the Woodstock Square to a report of an older man lying unresponsive on the ground, the Herald states. John J. McManus, of 128 S. Hayward St., was pronounced dead. No foul play is suspected, and an autopsy is planned for Tuesday, the Herald reports.
