Supporters of Same Sex Marriage to Hold Vigil Today

Supporters of the Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act are invited to join the peaceful vigil from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 17.

McHenry County advocates for same sex marriage are planning to hold a peaceful vigil later today in Woodstock. Members of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in McHenry (Tree of Life), along with Parents and Families of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) and Fortunate Families, a Catholic family group, will once again be holding a silent roadside vigil in support of marriage equality in Illinois. The supporters will gather from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in Woodstock at the corner of South Eastwood Drive (Route 47) and Country Club Road. “This week Minnesota became joined Rhode Island and Delaware becoming the third state to enact marriage equality legislation in the last month,” said Patrick Murfin, Social Justice Committee chair of the U.U. Crystal Lake Man, 71, Arrested for Offering to Pay Teen for Sex

John Giesing, 71, of 711 Coventry Ln., was arrested and charged with soliciting a sexual act.

A Crystal Lake man was arrested Saturday evening after police said he approached a teenage boy in the Coventry subdivision and offered him money for sex. Crystal Lake Police Cmr. Derek Hyrkas said a 16-year-old boy was walking on Coventry Lane at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 11. The boy said an elderly man driving a silver Hyundai Santa Fe pulled over nearby and motioned for him to approach the car, Hyrkas said in a release. The teen walked over to the car, at which time the older man offered to pay him money to engage in a sexual act with him, Hyrkas said. The teenager declined the offer, and the elderly man drove away. What Do Area Hospitals Bill for Procedures?

On average, Centegra hospitals in McHenry and Woodstock bills Medicare less than the U.S. average, while Sherman Hospital in Elgin bills one to two times more than the U.S. average for treatments.

While Centegra Hospital in Woodstock on average bills Medicare $36,379 for a major joint replacement, nearby Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital bills $44,897 for the same procedure, according to a federal database released Wednesday by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.  Both Centegra hospitals in Woodstock and McHenry bills Medicare on average less than the U.S. average, according to a database compiled by New York Times, which is searchable by ZIP code or state. Kathleen Hansen (Miller), 62, of Woodstock crossed the eternal finish line of her final race and left behind a legacy of love on Monday, May 2, 2013. She was a teacher for Marian Central Catholic High School for 27 years. Kay especially enjoyed teaching AP English and Speech Composition. Her life’s work as an educator was dedicated to her students. In addition to teaching, she was an avid runner and completed many races, including half-marathons. She also enjoyed relaxing in front of a warm fire, spending time with her family and friends, and being an active parishioner at her church. Area Farmers Markets Opening Soon for Summer Season

Find out when the Woodstock, Crystal Lake and Huntley farmers markets, as well as several other area farmers markets, will be opening for the summer season.

Area farmers markets will soon be re-opening for the summer season, bring with plenty of fresh, locally-grown produce.  The Woodstock Farmers Market, one of the largest in the area, will open this Saturday, May 4. The market will be open for the outdoor season from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday and Tuesday at the Woodstock Square. A full list of 2013 Woodstock Farmers Market vendors can be found on the market's website.  The Crystal Lake Farmers Market will open for the summer season on Saturday, June 1. The market will be open every Saturday through Oct. 1 in Depot Park, near the downtown Metra Train Depot, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.  This year, the first Huntley Farmers Market will be held on Saturday, May 25. Sheriff's Office Arrests 'Top 10 Fugitive' Lymberopoulus of Woodstock

Kostas Lymberopoulus was wanted by McHenry County Sheriff's Office for probation violation regarding six counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance.

A Woostock man listed on the McHenry County Sheriff's Office Top 10 Fugitive list has been arrested. Kostas Lymberopoulus, 25, 1460 Cordgrass Trail, was located at 3 p.m. Friday, April 12, at Spring Hill Mall in West Dundee, by members of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Apprehension Unit and U.S. Marshal Task Force. Lymberopoulus was taken into custody without incident, according to McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren. He was taken to West Dundee Police Department, where he was booked and processed for drug related crimes during the arrest, Nygren said. Lymberopoulus was then turned over to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Apprehension Unit and transported to the McHenry County Correctional Facility in Woodstock, where he awaits a …
