Wind Chill Advisory through Tuesday Morning

Wind chills expected to be 20-25 below zero.

  Brrrrrr. Plunging January temperatures necessitate extra caution when heading outdoors today and especially tonight. The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory from 6 p.m. this evening to 10 a.m Tuesday, Jan. 22, for the Chicagoland region including Crystal Lake, Cary and the surrounding McHenry County communities.  Wind chill values predicted to drop to - 20  to - 25 below zero through Tuesday morning. Very cold air and strong winds will combine to generate dangerous wind chills, according to the National Weather Service.  This leads to a risk for frostbite and hypothermia. Frostbite to exposed skin can occur in 30 minutes. The National Weather Service advises to wear a hat and gloves if you must venture outdoors. Be …

That's good advice. I remember years ago writing a story about a cat whose legs (all 4) were frozen to the ground. It was rescued and survived, thankfully.   more ›
