Let everyone see just how hard you worked!
Putting together a Thanksgiving feast is no simple feat. Between the shopping and the cooking, there’s barely time left to set the table and make everything just right. If you’ve gone above and beyond with your spread this year, Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Patch invites you to show off your hard work! Be sure to share tell everyone what the special dishes are you served up, too. And, if your dinner table setting and decorations rival something Martha Stewart might whip up, we invite you to show those off, too! To share your photos, just login to your user account and click on the white and green button at the top of this article. Happy holidays, Algonquin and Lake in the Hills!
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, here's some arts-flavored trivia about famous Thanksgiving movie and television scenes. Can you figure them out?
There are some movies that have holiday dinners you'd be thrilled to be a part of, and some you'd be relieved to never have to see again. Every bit of the "Christmas Vacation" dinner is pretty brutal to watch even before Chevy Chase cuts into a gross, flatulent turkey. But a chance to sit down and eat and drink with the Big T from "The Sopranos" could be interesting as long as you don't make him angry. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, Patch has assembled some trivia questions for those of you that like movies and television as much as you like turkey. The answers will be posted on Friday, along with as many Thanksgiving-flavored YouTube clips that can be assembled. Leave your answers in the comments, along with your favorite pop culture …

The Parkside Pub's annual Turkey Testicle Festival begins at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the downtown Huntley restaurant, 11721 Main Street. A tip if you are brave enough to try the "hot nuts," as the staff calls the turkey testicles, don't chew too much. One or two chews then swallow the fried, hot nuts followed by a gulp of beer or whatever else you want to drink. Enjoy!

With the abundance of squash that we'll have throughout the season, I thought we'd do something a little bit different this week and actually demo a recipe. You're probably noticing all of the pretty little squash you're finding in the market or in your CSA box, but you might not be exactly sure how to use them. Something I like to do is to roast them whole, stuff them, and serve them as a side dish. It makes a really pretty presentation, and it's actually elegant enough to serve at your Thanksgiving meal. For this recipe, you can really use any kind of squash. What I have here are two little acorn squash, and what I've done is I've cut the bottom off to make it stable so that it's flat. I've then taken my knife and cut around the …
A lot of times it may not be what you are choosing that is causing weight gain, but how much you are choosing or the portion size that is the problem.

Thanksgiving is the perfect time of year to work on teaching your kids to be more thankful for what they have. We get so caught up in the Holiday madness of traveling, hosting dinners, shopping, and making Holiday wish lists that sometimes it's nice to take a breath, sit down as a family and talk with your kids about how lucky your family is, how grateful we should be, and how to say thank you for more than just gifts. It's a tricky concept to teach young children, who are natually self-centered, but by starting when they are young you can help lay the foundation to be grateful and think of others. We try a variety of activities to help our kids develop more of an attitude of gratitude. Here are some ideas we've found to create a more …
