Several area wrestlers qualified for state at a sectional tournament in Barrington this past weekend.
Jacobs High School's Austin Ryan qualified for the state wrestling tournament this past weekend after placing second at the Barrington sectional meet, according to IHSA results. At 106 pounds, the Jacobs High School junior will now compete at the state tournament, which will be held Feb. 14 to 16 at Assembly Hall in Champaign. Several other area wrestlers also qualified for next weekend's state tournament at the Barrington sectional meet on Saturday. Those who qualified include:

Austin Ryan’s dazzling debut campaign with the Jacobs High School wrestling team came to a close on Friday. The 103-pound freshman dropped a 12-3 decision to Glenbard North freshman Jon Marmolejo (41-4) in the first round of the IHSA Class 3A State Tournament in Champaign. Ryan finished with a stellar 32-8 record in his first season with the Golden Eagles. He also went undefeated in the Fox Valley Conference during the regular season. “It was pretty sweet you know,” said Ryan about his unbeaten run through the conference. “I came in as a freshman and you just try doing your best because you’re a freshman and everyone else is a lot older than you.
