UPDATE: Area Road Closings for Saturday

A flood warning remains in effect for McHenry County.

Officials have announced various road closures today in the area because of flooding.  As of 11 a.m. on Saturday, the following roads in Algonquin were closed due to water on pavement: Cornish Park remains closed to the public.  As of 6:30 a.m. Saturday morning, River Road is closed between Charles J. Miller Road and Lily Lake Road in McHenry due to flooding and overnight ice, according to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.  The area is open to local traffic only and will be closed until further notice, according to the sheriff's office.  ----------- The village of Algonquin is continuing to urge motorists Friday to avoid the area surrounding downtown Algonquin due to flooding on roads adjacent to the Fox River, according to a press …

Road Conditions Worsen as Snow Continues to Fall

A winter storm warning is in effect for McHenry County through 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Like" Algonquin-LITH Patch on Facebook | Get daily updates and breaking news alerts with our newsletter | Start a blog It could be a treacherous commute for many taking to area roads this evening.  Roadway conditions continue to worsen as heavy snow falls and strong winds whip through the area. A winter storm warning is in effect through 6 a.m. Wednesday for McHenry County.  As of 2:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, 5.5 inches of snow had fallen in Bull Valley in McHenry County with 2.1 inches of snow falling in one hour, according to the National Weather Service. As much as four inches of snow has been reported in Elgin, according to Tom Sklling's Facebook page.  Motorists were reporting white-out and blizzard conditions as well as snow-covered …

No Closings Reported Friday; Roads in Better Condition

Winter Storm Nemo left four to six inches of snow in much of McHenry County.

Area roadways should be in much better condition this morning.  The Illinois Department of Transportation is reporting all major highways are clear of ice and snow out in the northwest suburbs with some patches of ice and snow closer to Chicago.  It was a different story last night. Heavy snow dropped up to 9.5 inches in Zion and four to six inches of snow in McHenry County Thursday evening and night creating treacherous driving conditions.  "If you must travel, please be patient," according to a sheriff's office statement Thursday night. "If you do not need to travel, please stay home." No area school districts were reporting closings as of 7 a.m. Friday. Illinois Tollway Preps for Friday Snowstorm

A press release from the Illinois Tollway.

The Illinois Tollway is preparing to mobilize its full fleet of 183 snowplows in response to the snowfall expected to begin on Friday and continue into Saturday morning, making travel safer and easier for customers on the 286-mile system of roads serving 12 counties in Northern Illinois. "The Illinois Tollway is ready to put our snow removal plans into action as soon as the snow hits the pavement," said Illinois Tollway Executive Director Kristi Lafleur.  "The safety of our customers is our top priority, and we are well-prepared to respond to the snowfall expected throughout the day tomorrow."
