A portion of the Prairie Trail in Algonquin is expected to be closed through Sept. 11 while Algonquin Road will be reduced to one lane in coming days.
Get ready for brake lights ahead as long term lane closures to Algonquin Road are expected in coming days as the main portion of the Western Bypass project gets underway. On Friday, Sept. 7 Algonquin Road between Main Street and Meyer Drive in Algonquin is expected to be reduced to one lane through the rest of fall 2012, according to the village of Algonquin website. Intermittent lane closures along Algonquin Road began Tuesday. Village officials are encouraging motorists to find alternate routes to the portion of Algonquin Road just west of downtown Algonquin. When completed, the Route 31 at Virginia Road/Klasen Road widening and reconstruction project will provide two through lanes on Route 31.
Klasen Road will be closed east of Route 31 starting Monday at 6 a.m. Klasen Road is expected to be closed through August. A posted detour will guide residents to the west end of Klasen Road from Cary-Algonquin Road. The inaugural Algonquin Run for Recreation 10-mile race will take place Saturday, May 19, on various streets between Main Street (Illinois Route 31) and Randall Road. Motorists are advised to use extra caution when driving in Algonquin on Saturday. Course marshals will be stationed throughout the course to assist runners and motorists before and during the race. Traffic will be restricted on Jefferson Street, Washington Street and Railroad Street between the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. Huntington Drive will be closed from Main Street to Circle Drive between 6:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Motorists should use Algonquin Road as the designated detour route.
