Inverness Woman Charged in Decades Old Murder Former Inverness resident Jacquelyn Greco, 66, was charged with arranging the murder of her husband in 1979. Greco, of Crystal Falls, Michigan was charged with first degree murder of her husband, Carl Gaimari. Police said Greco was having an affair and planned her husband's death. Police said that Greco had a burglary staged. On April 30, 1979, two men entered the residence and stated they were robbing the home. Police said the two men ordered Greco and the couple's three children – ages 13, 5, and 2 – into a bedroom, tied them up and locked them in a closet. Before they closed the closet door, the men took a box off of a top shelf that contained two handguns owned by Gaimari. Police said that …

Crystal Lake Massive Fire Destroys Home, Damages Four Others Three firefighters sustained minor injuries battling a fire on Carrington Drive near Crystal Lake. The fire started at 3:30 p.m. The fire engulfed one home and strong winds helped spread it to four nearby homes in the 3200 block of Carrington Drive. "Crews started a defensive attack on the fire and began protecting exposures," stated Jerry Larsen, fire prevention bureau chief for Crystal Lake Fire Rescue in a press release. A home at 3217 Carrington was described as a "total loss," by Larsen. No residents were injured in the incident. Des Plaines Man Rescued from Des Plaines River After Kayak Capsizes Des Plaines firefighters rescued a man from the Des Plaines River after the kayak he was paddling capsized on Friday, according to a report from Fire Chief Alan Wax. A witness reported the man in the river shortly after 11 a.m. on April 19, Wax stated, and he was found clinging to a tree trunk in the river. The man was not injured, Wax stated. “It was our understanding that he was previously helping folks with his boat prior to traveling toward the main river via Campground Road,” Wax stated. Inverness Man Killed In School Bus Crash A 50-year-old Barrington Hills Man, Steven Schmidt, was killed Thursday after the SUV he was driving collided with a District 15 school bus in Inverness. No children were on the school bus at the time of the incident. The bus was headed east on Palatine Road at about 3:50 p.m. and collided with an SUV headed west. Harvard Woman Pulled From Burning Car After Crashing Into School Bus Two good Samaritans are credited with pulling a Harvard woman from her burning car early Wednesday morning after she collided with a school bus on Route 14. Deborah Furstenau, 53, was driving a 1997 Plymouth eastbound on Route 14 in unincorporated Hartland Township at about 7 a.m. April 10, when she lost control of the car, veered into the westbound lane and collided with a Durham School Bus, according to McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren. Wadsworth One Killed in School Bus Crash A rollover crash involving a school bus and two vehicles at Route 173 and Kilbourne Road in Newport Township at about 8 a.m. Friday morning has left one person dead. CLTV has several videos on its website. The bus was loaded with about three dozen kindergarten through fifth-grade students headed to Newport Elementary School, none of whom have serious injuries, reported the Chicago Tribune. Arlington Heights Man Charged in Cat Murders A 22-year-old Arlington Heights man is accused of killing three of his girlfriend's cats between June and February while he was watching them for her, according to the Chicago Tribune. A $125,000 bond has been set for John Talmo, of the 200 block of Derbyshire Avenue, who was charged Thursday with aggravated animal cruelty in the Rolling Meadows branch of Cook County Circuit Court, according to the Tribune. Palatine Three Killed in Crash A grandma, her daughter and 2-year-old grandson—all of Palatine—died Thursday in a two-vehicle crash outside of Sycamore in DeKalb County, according to media reports. Police told the Daily Chronicle the accident occurred when the daughter, and driver of the Mitsubishi Galant, Jenny Perez, 19, of Palatine crossed the centerline on Peace Road near Freed Road and collided with a large farming truck. Her mother, Angelina Felix, 57, and her son, Roberto M. Perez, 2, were in the vehicle and also died in the crash, which occurred around 11:20 a.m. Thursday, according to the Daily Chronicle. Crystal Lake Man Who Killed Family in DUI Crash Gets Another DUI A 61-year-old Mount Prospect man convicted of driving drunk and killing four Crystal Lake family members in 1999 now faces upgraded charges for allegations that he drove drunk this past Sunday, McHenry County prosecutors told the Daily Herald. Depner wandered into a Lakemoor resident's home on Sunday, Feb. 24 after driving his car into a ditch. Des Plaines Feds: Former Police Commander Inflated DUI Arrests A former Des Plaines police commander has been charged with falsifying records to obtain grant funding for overtime pay following an investigation by the city, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office on Wednesday. Timothy Veit, 55, of Mount Prospect, a 31-year law enforcement veteran, is accused of inflating the number of DUI arrests that would qualify for the federal funds from 30 to 152, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, between 2009 and 2012.
