District 158 Seeks Reading Volunteers
The district is looking for adults, other than Martin Elementary School parents, to read to third, fourth and fifth grade students on a weekly basis.
We’ve all heard the phrase, “It takes a village to raise a child,” and staff members at Martin Elementary School are extending an offer to the community in search of adults to become a partner in education by signing up as reading volunteers. “We’re looking for adults, other than current Martin parents, to read on a weekly basis with our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students,” said Assistant Principal Matt Webster. “Volunteers are welcome between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., and 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.” Reading volunteers will be assisting with individual students and small groups using preplanned reading activities provided by classroom teachers. “As a teacher I always valued and appreciated the added assistance and increased …
