With the arrival of warmer weather, the McHenry County Conservation District reminds residents several parts of the Prairie Trail Bike Path are closed due to multiple construction projects in Algonquin. The Prairie Trail has no through traffic from Route 31 (Main Street) in Algonquin to just south of Pyott Road in Lake in the Hills. Closed through May 24, Algonquin ByPass Construction: Section from Huntington Road to Algonquin Road. Closed through July 30, Delayed Bridge Repair: On the North – Trail exits at subdivision westbound on Willow. On the South – Trail Ends at Route 31 Huntington. Meyer Road parking lot is closed. A portion of the Prairie Trail in Algonquin is expected to be closed through Sept. 11 while Algonquin Road will be reduced to one lane in coming days.
Get ready for brake lights ahead as long term lane closures to Algonquin Road are expected in coming days as the main portion of the Western Bypass project gets underway. On Friday, Sept. 7 Algonquin Road between Main Street and Meyer Drive in Algonquin is expected to be reduced to one lane through the rest of fall 2012, according to the village of Algonquin website. Intermittent lane closures along Algonquin Road began Tuesday. Village officials are encouraging motorists to find alternate routes to the portion of Algonquin Road just west of downtown Algonquin. In addition, a portion of the Prairie Trail in Algonquin closed on Wednesday and will remain off limits to bikers during weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Sept. 11, …

Months after installation, the pedestrian overpass opens.
Bikers, in-line skaters and walkers won't have to hassle with oncoming cars and slow traffic light signals when using the Prairie Trail Bike Path at Rakow Road. Months after the initial installation, the multi-use Prairie Trail pedestrian bridge in Crystal Lake opened late Thursday. On Friday morning, cyclists were using the new overpass, and the former pathway that required people to cross in front of Rakow and Pyott road traffic was blocked off. The new bridge, installed in January as part of the two-year-long Rakow Road improvement project, towers above the traffic. The climb from the Crystal Lake side of the bridge is steep. There is no planning or coordination between the individual projects. That would be up to the village planners and board to coordinate with the state and construction companies....too much like work. Let's all just deal with the inconvenience for the next 2 years, so they can complete a 9 month job, overcharge us and be repairing it 5 years from now because of piss poor engineering and materials…   more ›
