Prairie Grove Teachers Union, School District Reach Tentative Agreement

One-day strike ended at 4:15 p.m. when both sides, with the assistance of a mediator, finally reached an agreement.

The past 24 hours have been turmultuous for teachers, students, parents, and administrators of Prairie Grove School District 46.  On Thursday night, a negotiations session between the Prairie Grove Teachers Association and the School Board did not go well, especially when, after five hours, it was determined both sides weren't on the same page - or contract. "We're not sure which contract they were working off," said PGTA spokesman Brad Piech, an 8th-grade teacher for Prairie Grove Jr. High. "We had a mediator, and after five hours they (PGTA negotiating team and school board negotiating team) realized they were working off two different contracts." Between 8 to 10 p.m., nearly 100 parents packed the school - at one time squeezing into …

Prairie Grove District 46 Teachers Strike

After failing to reach an agreement during negotiations on Thursday, the PGTA informed the school at 12:30 a.m. teachers would not be reporting to school on Friday.

Prairie Grove Teachers Union finally acted on a strike authorization vote taken in August. The PGTA met with the District 46 bargaining team on Thursday night for more negotiations that never seem to realize an agreement between the two sides. The PGTA issued a statement at 1 a.m. Friday: "After seven hours of negotiations tonight (Thursday), the Prairie Grove teachers will not be reporting to school on Friday, Oct. 12."  "The teachers' negotiating team asked the Board of Education team and their attorney to continue negotiating throughout the night but they would not agree to continue to negotiate.  The next negotiation session is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12." This morning, the 73 members of the Prairie Grove Teachers …

Progress Reported in Prairie Grove District 46 Teachers Negotiations

Representatives from the Prairie Grove Teachers Association and District 46 say discussions were productive and promising on Monday.

Both sides of the bargaining table for Prairie Grove School District 46 teachers' union contract report progress Monday after a specially scheduled negotiations meeting. While all terms are not yet finalized, discussions went well enough for administrators to announce on the school website that students should report to classes tomorrow at the district's elementary and junior high school serving approximately 900 students at 3223 Route 176, Crystal Lake. "We are pleased to report after meeting for nine hours today, the PGTA felt significant progress was made. We are optimistic that a settlement is at hand, and plan to meet again on Sept. 24," the PGTA Negotiation Team said in a press release issued at 5:30 p.m. Monday. District 46 …

Poll: Prairie Grove Teachers Vote to Strike, Should They?

The PGTA and Prairie Grove School District 46 Board of Education have been in contract negotiation talks for 20 months.

The tally on the Prairie Grove Teachers Association website reads 575. It represents the number of days instructors have been working without a signed contract agreement with the Prairie Grove School District 46 Board of Education. The PGTA on Sunday issued an e-mail stating that 93-percent of its membership on Aug. 21 overwhelmingly approved a strike authorization vote.  "After meeting for five hours on Aug. 21, 2012, Prairie Grove Teachers Association was yet again disppointed in the negotiations session," the email stated. The PGTA further stated no decision has been made on "a strike date at this time."  For the past 20 months, the PGTA and District 46 Board of Education have been negotiating terms for a new contract to no avail. The…
