Bill Prim, a Republican candidate for McHenry County Sheriff, on Friday announced that Republican Newt Gringrich and his wife, Callista, will headline a fundraiser dinner for Prim on Feb. 18, at Bull Valley Country Club in Woodstock, according to the McHenry County Blog. Prim, a former Des Plaines Police commander, already is preparing for the March 2014 Republican primary election. Gingrich, former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, will discuss current political issues at the fundraiser, the McHenry County Blog reports. A longtime Cary resident, Prim recently retired from the Des Plaines Police Department after a 27-year career. More information about Prim can be found on the Prim for Sheriff webpage.

Twin sisters Ashley and Sierra DiVenere, both 12, were excited not only to get out of school early Thursday afternoon, but also because they got to see Newt Gingrich speak in their hometown of Lake in the Hills. Their mother, Jackie DiVenere, said their family had been fans of the Republican presidential hopeful "forever." "He's intelligent — I love his politics," she said. Gingrich and his wife have planned several stops in Illinois for March 14 and March 15. Earlier this week, Gingrich finished second in primaries in Mississippi and Alabama behind Rick Santorum. The Republican presidential candidate will be making many stops in the area on Wednesday and Thursday.
Newt Gingrich and his wife are slated to hold a rally in Lake in the Hills Thursday. The "Newt 2012 Lake in the Hills Rally" will be from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at 8585 Pyott Road, according to Gingrich's campaign website. A representative with Gingrich's campaign said the appearance is meant for supporters to get the chance to hear from Gingrich who is expected to give a speech. More information will be posted to the Illinois With Newt website as it becomes available. The Northwest Herald is reporting Lake in the Hills village administrator Gerald Sagona said that while the site for the rally is listed on Gingrich's campaign website as the Lake in the Hills Airport it is actually going to be held on private property at 8585 Pyott Road. …
