New Cycling Shop Opens in Algonquin

Cycling Republic is located at 2397 S. Randall Road in Algonquin.

Cycling enthusiasts have another place to go in the area for bike equipment and tune-ups. Cycling Republic opened in March at 2397 S. Randall Road in Algonquin, according to the Cycling Republic Facebook page. The first weekend open, the bike shop reported heavy foot traffic and a great response from the community, according to the Facebook page. The shop sells bicycles and also offers bike repair services, according to the Facebook page. "We may be a new shop, but our staff has well over a decade of bicycle experience in the Fox Valley," according to the shop's Facebook page. Cycling Republic is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and and 12 to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Coming Soon to the Algonquin Commons

A discount book store, children's clothing store, a plus-size fashion store and a Mediterranean grill will open soon at Algonquin Commons.

A handful of stores and restaurants, including a cafe specializing in Mediterranean food and a discount book store, will soon be opening at the Algonquin Commons.  Aladdin's Mediterranean Grill Aladdin's Mediterranean Grill will open on Jan. 18 at 1644 S. Randall Road and will feature "authentic Mediterranean foods that are made using spices imported from the region," according to the Algonquin Commons website.  Aladdin's Mediterranean Grill is located in the same cluster of stores and restaurants as Bonefish Grill and Cheeseburger in Paradise.  Crazy 8 Expected to open today, Jan. 16, is Crazy 8—a children's clothing store that boasts affordable prices for sizes newborn to 14, according to the Algonquin Commons website. Used Book Store Opens in Algonquin

Books of Southwind is located at 4069 Algonquin Road in Algonquin.

There is only so much time left to do your holiday shopping.  If the recipient on your holiday shopping list doesn't mind a gently-used book as a gift or stocking stuffer, you might want to check out one of Algonquin's newest businesses: Books of Southwind, located at 4069 Algonquin Road in Algonquin. The book store is located between Lakewood and Square Barn roads along Algonquin Road and has over 35,000 books, CDs and movies, according to the Books of Southwind Facebook page.   Hollie and Eric Lindgren, owners of Books of Southwind, told the Northwest Herald they felt there was a real need for an affordable bookstore in the area, especially since the Borders at the Algonquin Commons closed in 2011.  The couple formerly owned Forever …

New Businesses for Algonquin, LITH

When a pastry chef and hobbyist chocolate maker join forces to open a business, the results can be nothing short of wickedly sweet. And now, the east side of Algonquin gets to reap the benefits. Brian Green, the pastry chef, and his wife, Cyndi Green, the hobbyist chocolate maker, opened Wicked Chocolates in September. The chocolate shop at 2140 Lake Cook Road in Algonquin doubles as a cafe, offering a variety of loose tea and coffee as well as “high tea combinations.” The high tea combos let visitors couple tea or coffee with two mini sandwiches. Actually, we do. It's places like Starbucks and Panera that give prospective businesses the confidence to build in the same area. Smaller businesses with similar clientele rely on the site diligence that Starbucks performs and piggybacks on their research. Regional Thrift Chain to Open Store in Algonquin

Home of Sparrow Nest Thrift Store and Donation Center is expected to open at 775 S. Randall Road in mid-September.

Algonquin wlll get a Home of Sparrow Nest Thrift Store and Donation Center at 775 S. Randall Road, according to the Northwest Herald. The thrift store is expected to open in mid-September.  Items sold at the store are donated and the stores' staff is mostly made up of volunteers, according to the NW Herald.  The regional chain has stores in McHenry, Cary, Woodstock and Palatine.  The Northwest Herald has more on the Home of Sparrow store expected to open in Algonquin.

LITH Planning Commission to Vote on Plans for Associated Bank on Randall

The bank hopes to move into the old Blockbuster building on Randall Road in Lake in the Hills.

The Lake in the Hills Planning and Zoning commission will review plans Monday for a new bank along Randall Road. Associated Bank is seeking approval to open in the old Blockbuster Video store location just north of the intersection of Randall and Algonquin Roads. The bank is seeking a conditional use permit, which would allow it to add a drive-through to the building, said Dan Olson, director of community development for Lake in the Hills. If the plans are approved, the petition will head next to the village’s Committee of the Whole for review and then to the village board for final approval of the 4,000-square foot bank.  The planning and zoning meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Lake in the Hills Village Hall, 600 Harvest Gate.  …

Well, I wouldn't mind seeing something else there as a business instead of a bank. We have enough banks, dry cleaners, & gas stations. So the village wants us to shop in LITH, but there aren't many shops to shop at. So why not put some business there other than a bank?!?   more ›
