Half-Price Books is coming soon to Algonquin. The 9,964-square-foot store will be located in a portion of the former Borders location on the south corner of the Algonquin Commons and right next to Family Christian, according to information provided by Half Price Books. The used book store will begin buying used books, music, movies and games on Monday, March 25, said Emily Bruce, Half Price Books public relations manager, in an e-mail. The store will provide cash for used materials it accepts. A grand opening celebration will be held Thursday, April 25 through Sunday, April 28, according to Half Price Books. After spending 12 months remodeling their new space in Algonquin Commons, the owners of Jiang’s Mongolian Grill finally opened to the public this month. And so far, the public has been very receptive to the restaurant, which is located at 1740 S. Randall Road in Algonquin, the owners said. “All of the customers have enjoyed our services and good foods,” said David Chen, translating for owner Shan Hao Zhao. “They gave us the best comments on the quality and the quantity. “They accepted and were satisfied by the different taste,” he said. A national arts and craft retailer will be opening soon along Randall Road in Algonquin. A soft opening is slated for Hobby Lobby either Wednesday at noon or at some point Thursday, according to an e-mail response from Marie Filippino, advertising coordinator for Hobby Lobby. Hobby Lobby does not typically publicize a soft opening in case they are unable to open the store as scheduled due to situations beyond their control, according to Filippino. The 56,000-square foot stand-alone store will be located just south of the Algonquin Commons in the Esplanade of Algonquin Development. A grand opening celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 13 at the store.

A winery/microbrewery and a quaint Italian restaurant opened in recent days in Algonquin. The Village Vintner Winery and Brewery, which formerly operated solely as a winery along Randall Road in Carpentersville, opened Friday just south of Algonquin Commons at 2380 Esplanade Drive. The “soft opening” was announced at 3 p.m. Friday and the business still “packed the house,” according to Village Vintner’s Facebook page. Steve Boyer, owner of Village Vintner, told the Elgin Courier in January that a drop in production forced him to close the doors of his Carpentersville winery on Dec. 31. Cute place with mediocre ambiance. We started with one server when we arrived at 9:00 for a glass of wine and an appetizer. Then another server came by because the other one was leaving. Overall not impressed with the wine. I tried 3 different reds and settled for a blend that tasted weak for a blend.
