Federal Judge Dismisses Bianchi's Civil Suit

The lawsuit was filed against special prosecutors hired to investigate McHenry County State's Attorney Louis Bianchi.

A federal judge has dismissed a civil rights lawsuit filed by McHenry County State's Attorney Louis Bianchi against special prosecutors hired to investigate him, according to the Daily Herald.  Bianchi has been indicted and acquitted twice on corruption charges for accusations that he and his secretary used his office and company resources for campaign work. The most recent acquittal came in August 2011.  U.S. Judge Robert Dow dismissed the lawsuit last week and in his ruling stated Thomas McQueen and Henry Tonigan had immunity as special prosecutors on the case, according to the Northwest Herald. The lawsuit alleged the prosecutors were "motivated by politics and money," according to the NW Herald.  Bianchi has four weeks to re-file the …

All I can say is its too bad that these lawyers were not sucessful in the first place..Where there is smoke there is fire and thank goodness the judge threw out this case. Can you sue for vendetta? I just wish a new Republican attorney of outstanding character would run in the next election..we need to wipe the slate clean in McHenry County.   more ›

Former Lake in the Hills Man Gets 25 Years For Sexual Assault

The Daily Herald reported that former Lake in the Hills resident Robert W. Lucht, 56, was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

A former Lake in the Hills resident has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for sexual assault of a child, the Daily Herald reported. Robert W. Lucht, 56, had been charged with three counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, the newspaper reported. Lucht previously had attempted suicide in October after a jury found him guilty on the charges. As Patch previously reported, Lucht was convicted of sexually assaulting a young girl. The girl, according to a press release from the McHenry County State's Attorney, was admitted to a hospital when she was 11 years old for having suicidal intentions and for harming herself.  The girl then reported she had been sexually assaulted by …

Huntley Man Headed to Prison for 5 Years

Jimmy J. Dill pleads guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

  A Huntley man, Jimmy J. Dill, 40, was sentenced to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on Friday after pleading guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse, authorities said. Dill, of 10809 Cape Cod Lane, was charged Tuesday in con plead guilty to the Class 2 felony, admitting he placed his hands on the breasts of teen under the age of 17, according to a McHenry County State’s Attorney release. He qualified for probation but the court found probation would deprecate the serious nature of the offense and a prison sentence was necessary to protect the public, the release stated. The case was investigated by the Huntley Police Department.  and prosecuted for the State by Assistant State’s Attorney David Metnick.

Former CL Woman Sentenced to 14 Years in Attempted First-Degree Murder Case

Carrie Gil sentenced this week in a McHenry County courtroom.

  A former Crystal Lake woman was sentenced to 14 years in prison for attempted first-degree murder, McHenry County State’s Attorney officials said. Carrie Gil, 46, was convicted earlier this year of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated arson. Authorities alleged she started a fire in her home as her boyfriend slept. The Northwest Herald reported the victim wrote a statement that was read in court. Gil was also sentenced to 12 years for the aggravated arson, to run concurrently. She must serve 85 percent of the sentence.

Marengo Man Convicted of DUI in Deadly Accident

Jury finds Daniel Bending guilty of DUI charges and causing death of 77-year-old man.

  A McHenry County jury convicted a 49-year-old Marengo man of driving under the influence of alcohol in an accident that caused the death of a 77-year-old man in 2008, the McHenry County State’s Attorney said Monday. Daniel Bending was found guilty of blood alcohol concentration of .08 or more (causing death) and driving under the influence of alcohol (causing death), prosecutors said. Bending was arrested after striking Leonard Anderson, a 77-year-old truck driver, as he crossed Route 20 on foot in Marengo. Anderson survived the initial crash, but later succumbed to his injuries, prosecutors said. A blood test revealed that the defendant’s blood alcohol concentration nearly two and a half hours after the accident was 0.081.  The case was…

State's Attorney's Office Commended for Pimping Conviction

A Chicago coalition says juvenile servitude convictions bring awareness to a growing crime.

The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office is being commended for convicting two Lake in the Hills women last month of involuntary servitude of a minor. With the convictions of Antwanette Atkins and Kari Knox, the county state’s attorney’s office used the Illinois Human Trafficking Code, which passed in 2006, said Kristin Claes, communication manager for the Chicago Alliance Against Sexual Exploitation. The alliance began the End Demand Illinois campaign to change state laws that now holds traffickers and perpetrators accountable. The alliance also provides support services to those impacted by the sex trade. Bianchi Announces Run for Re-Election at LITH Country Club

The McHenry County state's attorney was acquitted twice on corruption charges.

McHenry County State's Attorney Lou Bianchi announced Thursday he will run for his third term.  Bianchi has been indicted and acquitted twice on corruption charges. The most recent acquittal came earlier this month. The Northwest Herald reports Bianchi, a Republican, announced his run for re-election at the Boulder Ridge Country Club in Lake in the Hills at Bianchi's annual Fest Italiana fundraiser. His current term is up in November 2012.

Special Prosecutors Withheld Vital Information In Bianchi Case

Bianchi attorney says actions are "proven misconduct," and that information would have helped defense case.

An evidentiary hearing on June 24 uncovered information favorable to McHenry County State’s Attorney Lou Bianchi’s defense.  The new information may be significant to at least two of the three official misconduct charges Bianchi faces alleging he attempted to drop or lessen penalties in criminal cases.  Winnebago County Judge Joseph McGraw held the evidentiary hearing in Rockford after Bianchi’s attorneys grew frustrated over Special Prosecutors Thomas McQueen and Henry Tonigan’s apparent failure to provide all information to the defense as required by law in a timely manner.
