What To Do If Your Mailbox is Damaged By a Plow

If the village decides a snowplow did in fact cause the damage, it will pay up to $45 to replace the mailbox.

Unfortunately it’s that time of the year when snow piles up in front of ours houses, burying sidewalks, driveways and, sometimes, mailboxes.  There are some instances where mailboxes are even displaced by snowplows pushing mounds of snow along the sides of our streets. But the village has protocol for getting them replaced. How do you file a mailbox damage claim? The Village of Algonquin has a form for reporting road or mailbox damage online, which is sent immediately after it’s filled out. A member of the village board or public works department will contact you after the form is received.  You can also call 847-658-2754 and file a claim over the phone as well. How do I know if my claim will qualify? The village website explains the rules…
