Children Learn New Tricks at Area Magic Class

The Thursday night event was held at Algonquin Historic Village Hall.

Mike Sheldon occasionally performs magical acts for his family's entertainment, and now the 9-year-old has a few more tricks up his sleeve. The Algonquin boy learned four new tricks Thursday night at a Gary Kantor magic class held at Algonquin Historic Village Hall, 2 S. Main St., Algonquin. The class was provided by the Algonquin-Events Recreation Department and the Lake in the Hills Park and Recreation Department. "I thought the class was good," Sheldon said. "I think I've got the tricks down already." Kantor, a school social worker by day and magician by night, offers magic classes for nearly 130 park districts during after-school and special education programs throughout the Chicago area. He has 10 assistants who help teach the classes…
