LITH Holds Instructional Bike Rodeo at Ken Carpenter Park

Bike safety rodeo will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11.

The first of three Bike Rodeos 2013 will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at Ken Carpenter Park in Lake in the Hills. The bike rodeos are instructional events that promote bike safety. Children will ride their bicycle on a course that demands several different maneuvers designed to test their biking skills. Ken Carpenter Park is located at the northwest corner of Randall and Miller roads. This free program is open to children of all ages and requires no pre-registration. LITH to Hold Drug Drop-Off Event

You can bring your medications for disposal to the Lake in the Hills Police Department on April 27.

On April 27, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Lake in the Hills Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public another opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous, expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring your medications for disposal to the Lake in the Hills Police Department located at 1115 Crystal Lake Rd., Lake in the Hills. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. Last September, Americans turned in 244 tons of prescription drugs at 5,200 sites operated by the DEA and thousands of state and local law enforcement partners. St. Patrick's Enforcement in Lake in the Hills Nets Traffic Arrests

The Lake in the Hills Police Department will conduct its next traffic enforcement in May.

The Lake in the Hills Police Department pulled over 54 motorists for various violations during a special St. Patrick's Day traffic enforcement between March 14 and March 17.  Police arrested two drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol, one on a warrant and issued 47 citations, according to a Lake in the Hills Police Department press release. The funding for the additional enforcement was made possible by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation, according to the news release.  From 2006 to 2010, 700 people died in crashes involving drunken drivers over the St. Patrick's Day holiday, according to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety.  “This is why Lake in the Hills Police and other local agencies …

Chris Nikolaou, 22, 413 Starwood Pass, Lake in the Hills, was arrested at 3:38 a.m. March 18, and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol content over .08, and disobeying a traffic control device. Catalytic Converters Stolen from Cars Near Route 31

Two automobile owners reported the devices stolen on Thursday, March 14, according to Lake in the Hills Police.

  Two catalytic converters were reported removed and stolen from vehicles parked near Route 31 in Lake in the Hills, according to police reports. The first converter was reported missing at 2:17 p.m. Thursday, March 14, from a vehicle at Milestone Mortgage, 9205 S. Route 31. The converter was removed from the vehicle sometime during the previous night, according to Lake in the Hills Police reports. The second device was taken from Preferred Office Installations, 9174 Trinity Dr., where a catalytic converter and an oxygen sensor were reported stolen at 2:18 p.m. March 14. The devices are used to reduce pollution and noise. Thieves are stealing converters because the price of precious metals is skyrocketing, and catalytic converters contain …

You can now sign up for the event, which will be held on Friday, April 12.

The Lake in the Hills Police Department will again be hosting its popular Lunch with a Cop program on Friday, April 12.  The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lake in the Hills Police Department’s Safety Educational Center, 1109 Crystal Lake Rd. The event is free and will be a pizza lunch, a puppet show and safety tips. The purpose of the program is to show young children that police officers are their friends and someone that they should come to for help. Do sign up for the program, call 847-658-5676.
