The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
Two people are dead after a plane that took off from the Lake in the Hills Airport crashed in south Central Wisconsin, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The plane--a Cessna 150--crashed around 6:30 p.m. Sunday about 15 miles southwest of Baraboo, Wis., said FAA spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory. Rescue crews located the wreckage around 11 p.m. Sunday. The destination of the plane is not known at this time. Cory said the pilot was using visual flight rules and not in communication with area air traffic control. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.

Planning and Zoning Commission members will discuss the Lake in the Hills Airport expansion at a public hearing April 18. Trustees unanimously Thursday night voted to give the plan to commission members to get their feedback and also collect comments from the public, said Shannon Andrews, assistant village administrator for the village of Lake in the Hills. The existing airport is 72 acres and the village is considering the rezoning of five adjacent parcels – totaling about 65 acres – for airport use. Village officials have said more space is needed at the airport. Work has already begun moving the taxiway farther from the runway, as a safety measure, but the relocation will eliminate space to park aircrafts. The village has spent about…

Now that Pyott Road has been moved to make more room for air traffic at Lake in the Hills Airport, the village has started to work on another project: the airport's image. The village is reaching out to pilots, asking for marketing-strategy suggestions for the airport, which is located southwest of Rakow and Pyott roads. T.J. Moore, the village's deputy public works director and airport manager, said a new marketing strategy at the airport is in the early stages of development. Moore said he had some ideas, but wanted elected officials to see his plan first -- sometime later this year -- before he made those plans public. Targeting Residents, Pilots Key Bob Spooner, a pilot and former village trustee who was a chief architect and champion …

Bob Gwinn and his 1956 Piper Tri-Pacer are the first to be featured in our new series on pilots and planes at Lake in the Hills airport.
Bob Gwinn jokes that being at work makes his neck hurt. That's perfectly reasonable, given that his Allstate Insurance office faces the Lake in the Hills Airport, where he spends a good part of each day straining to watch the planes cruise by his office windows. As of this year, one of those eye-catching planes parked at the airport is his own, a 1956 Piper Tri-Pacer that he found on a farm. Gwinn and his restored Tri-Pacer, painted an aesthetic aquamarine shade called Bahama Blue, are the first in a series of pilots and planes based at Lake in the Hills Airport that Lake in the Hills Patch will highlight. Read on to learn more about Gwinn's search for the plane, its treacherous trip to Lake in the Hills and its restoration, where a team …

I just stumbled upon this article. I live just a mile from where this plane came from. Good memories from riding in her from childhood to adulthood. Glad she got a fresh upgrade. Can't believe it, but Thanks for the article posting.   more ›
