Several area wrestlers qualified for state at a sectional tournament in Barrington this past weekend.
Jacobs High School's Austin Ryan qualified for the state wrestling tournament this past weekend after placing second at the Barrington sectional meet, according to IHSA results. At 106 pounds, the Jacobs High School junior will now compete at the state tournament, which will be held Feb. 14 to 16 at Assembly Hall in Champaign. Several other area wrestlers also qualified for next weekend's state tournament at the Barrington sectional meet on Saturday. Those who qualified include:

Proceeds from sales today will go to Jacobs High School and could put the school in the running for a $3,000 grand prize.
Dining at Buffalo Wild Wings in Algonquin today will benefit Jacobs High School. As a part of its spirit night fund-raising event, 15 percent of all sales (not including alcohol) made at Buffalo Wild Wings, 461 S. Randall Road, will be donated to Jacobs High School. You can print out the attached flier to have the sales from your meal go to Jacobs. The schools that raise the most money during their spirit night challenge will advance to the next round and then to a final round, said Lori Berndt, with the Jacobs High School Boosters Club, in an e-mail. In total, $720 was raised for the American Red Cross.
Fund-raising efforts at Jacobs High School earlier this month brought in $720 for Hurricane Sandy relief. On Monday, Jacobs Principal Ami Engel, Student Council Sponsors Morgan Loete and Sarah Benson, and student council representatives presented the donations to representatives from the American Red Cross. The Hurricane Sandy Relief Fundraiser was held from Nov. 5 through Nov. 9 at Jacobs High School. During that time, students could donate spare change during lunches and competitions were held between grade levels as a way to encourage donations, according to a press release. Jacobs High School will get to vote during a mock presidential election this Thursday and Friday during the school's lunch period. Students will not only get to sound off on their presidential pick, but also vote on issues related to their education, including the effect of class size on learning and the best reward to motivate behavorial change, said Jennifer Christian, media relations coordinator for Jacobs High School. The purpose is to encourage students to vote once they turn 18 years old. The Lake in the Hills Police Department also arrested a Crystal Lake man for domestic battery at Moretti's. Algonquin Police arrested a teen at Jacobs High School on a warrant out of Kane County for burglary.

Jacobs High School will take on No. 2-seeded Boylan Catholic in Rockford on Saturday.
Several local high school football teams will square off in the first round of playoffs this Saturday. Jacobs High School football team (5-4) will compete against No. 2-seeded Boylan Catholic (9-0) in Rockford at 1 p.m. on Saturday, according to the Illinois High School Association website. Huntley High School (6-3) will play No. 7-seeded Fenwick High School (7-2) in Oak Park at 7 p.m. Saturday in Oak Park, according to the IHSA.
