Motorists across Illinois have been paying more at the pumps this week, more than the majority of states, according to AAA. Here are the lowest prices in the Algonquin-LITH area.
The majority of states may be experiencing a drop in gas prices, but not Illinois and other parts of the Midwest, according to AAA. Record rainfall that led to flooding and reduced production related to refineries shifting over to "summer-blend" gasoline are part of the reason, reports AAA. There was also an explosion at a Detroit refinery on April 27, though that incident was not expected to contribute to higher prices for motorists. The current average price for regular unleaded in Illinois is $3.95. Last month, the average was $3.84. A year ago the average was $4.02. The highest recorded average was $4.31 on May 5, 2011, according to AAA. Algonquin, Lake in the Hills Gas Prices As of Sunday, the following gas stations had the lowest …

What do the numbers mean to you?
Wednesday, April 11, 2012
The economy added about 120,000 jobs in March. The jobless rate ticked down a percentage point to 8.2. Gas prices appear to have peaked and are coming down. These signs could be interpreted that the economy is improving. However, some of these numbers come with a “But … .” The Labor Department reported that employers added 120,000 jobs to their payrolls last month, but well below economists’ forecasts for a 203,000 gain. The unemployment rate fell, but experts said it was largely due to discouraged job hunters giving up the search for work. And, gas prices. They may have peaked, but will they rise again during the high-demand summer months? What do you think?

There is no easy answer for the reasons behind the rising cost of gasoline. Nevertheless, the rising cost of gas turned into a political battle between Republicans and Democrats at a Congressional hearing today, according to the Huffington Post. Republicans and oil industry leaders said America is not fully tapping its energy resources and were critical of the Obama administration’s rejection of the Keystone XL pipeline. Democrats blamed higher gas prices on Middle East tensions and speculation by Wall Street investors. Gas prices have jumped 48 cents since January to an average $3.76 per gallon. The truth is that crude oil prices accounted for 76 percent of the price of a gallon of gas in January, according to the U.S. Energy Information …
