Your Guide to the 2012 Sunset Festival

This year's festival will kick off this Friday, Aug. 31 and will continue through Sunday, Sept. 2.

The 2011 Summer Sunset Festival in Lake in the Hills is scheduled for Friday, Sept, 2 through Sunday, Sept. 4. Follow Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Patch on Facebook With carnival rides, entertainment scheduled for each night, a parade Saturday morning, plenty of events and competitions scheduled throughout the days and an awesome fireworks display to round off the weekend, we want to make sure you are covered on where to go and when.  Cost: It's free and so is parking! Things you will have to pay for: carnival rides, games, food and beverages. Cost for ride wristbands: Unlimited ride wristbands for one day cost $20. Officials Warn of Drought-Related Fire Risk Caused by Fireworks

Officials are reminding residents to heed fireworks laws this Fourth of July.

With much of northern Illinois in a moderate drought, local officials are warning residents of the potential risk of fire caused by fireworks.  According to the National Fire Protection Association (N.F.O.A.) more U.S. fires are reported on the fourth of July than on any other day, and fireworks accounted for half of those fires, more than any other cause of fire.  With the dry weather conditions, residents are encouraged to use extra precautions when celebrating the holiday this year, according to a village of Lake in the Hills press release.  The Lake in the Hills Police Department will have zero tolerance on violations of the Municipal fireworks ordinance and/or Illinois law, according to a LITH press release.  Any violators will be …

Interesting, zero tolerance on the celebration of Independance! While a short drive to the north to Wisconsin and you can buy all you can afford. Children At High Risk For Fireworks Eye Injuries

Keep kids safe during Fourth of July events.

Fireworks are a fun and traditional part of Independence Day celebrations, but they can also be dangerous. Sadly, children and teens are too often hurt by fireworks. So, before the celebration begins, get your EyeSmart fireworks safety tips from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Of the 9,000 fireworks-related injuries each year, 21 percent are eye injuries and more than half of the victims are young children or teenagers. For example: “Many Americans get caught up in the excitement of the Fourth of July, and forget that fireworks are also dangerous explosives,” said Monica L. The Fourth of July falls on a Wednesday this year. That means you will have the chance to enjoy the festivities the weekend before, the weekend after and, of course, on July 4.
