Crystal Lake added about 50 new businesses and 500 new jobs over the past two years, filling nearly 1 million square feet of empty retail space Michelle Rentzsch, the city’s director of planning and economic development, told the Northwest Herald. The Northwest Herald reports the following vacancy rates for area communities: Algonquin, 7.5 percent; Lake in the Hills, 6 percent; Cary, 9 percent; and McHenry County, 9 percent. Strategy involves marketing town to businesses and developers.
Gino DeVivo has a goal for 2013 to make Lake in the Hills a destination for opportunity for big and small businesses. “We are looking to continue our efforts on the Economic Development Strategy by building on branding themes,” said DeVivo, LITH’s Economic Development Coordinator. “It is moving in a positive fashion. It’s going to be exciting to watch it unfold.” LITH’s board of trustee approved the Economic Development Strategy in August hoping to spur commercial investment in town. A goal was to create effective branding and marketing materials, he said. Plote Homes has requested changing lots for duplexes to lots for single-family homes in the Lakes of Boulder Ridge Development.
The village of Lake in the Hills is considering converting lots meant for duplexes in the Lakes of Boulder Ridge development to lots for single-family homes. The developer for the area, Plote Homes, has requested changing 24 duplex lots (for 48 total units) to 37 single-family home lots in the area of the development at the northwest corner of Algonquin and Frank roads, according to a memo from the village of Lake in the Hills to the Committee of a Whole. "Sales have been slow for the duplex units and the developer has received indications from potential residents of the desire for more single-family detached options," according to the memo. I don't believe that building new homes priced $20,000 higher, in this economy, will fare well. Sounds like Mr. Plote's business needs more $ and I am afraid it will back fire. What the current home buyer needs is affordable housing not larger more expensive housing.   more ›
