District 47, 155 Cancel Evening School Activities; After-School Events Still On

District 47 Superintendent Donn Mendoza issued a statement saying all evening activities have been cancelled due to the expected storm. District 155 has cancelled all events after 5 p.m.

  Community School District 47 has cancelled all evening school-related activities for Thursday due to the approaching winter storm. Superintendent Donn Mendoza on Thursday morning issued a statement through the district's automated alert system saying all after-school events, sports, and activities will proceed as planned. However, any events such as holiday concerts, games or parent-teacher meetings scheduled for Thursday evening are cancelled due to the anticipated bad weather, the statement said. Community High School District 155 All high school activities scheduled after 5 p.m. Thursday are cancelled due to the weather, according to District 155 Communications Director Jeff Puma.

CL Officer Suspended after Incident Involving District 47 Superintendent

A Crystal Lake police officer was suspended for three days after assisting Superintendent Donn Mendoza at 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 9, the Northwest Herald reports.

  A Crystal Lake police officer has been given a three-day, unpaid suspension for not following department protocol during a Sept. 9 incident involving District 47 Superintendent Donn Mendoza, the Northwest Herald reports. Officer Brian Burr did not follow department procedure when he responded at 2:30 a.m. to Autumn Drive, after a neighbor reported a suspicious vehicle parked outside a residence. Burr found Mendoza sitting in the back seat of his Honda Pilot, parked seven houses from his home, and smelling of alcohol and appearing intoxicated, according to the article. Burr never gave Mendoza a field sobriety test, gave the school superintendent a ride home and did not search him before allowing Mendoza into the squad car, as he should …

School Board Extends Superintendent's Contract

The District 47 School Board Monday night approved a new five-year contract for Superintendent Donn Mendoza.

The District 47 School Board voted Monday night to extend the contract for Superintendent Donn Mendoza for another five years. The vote Monday was meant to address Mendoza’s three-year contract, which will expire in the next year. The board voted 5-1 in favor of renewing his contract until June 30, 2016, came during Monday’s meeting at District 47's C.O.R.E. Center, 300 Commerce Drive, Crystal Lake.  Mendoza was hired two years ago as the superintendent for District 47. The sole vote against the contract came from board member Ruth Scifo.
