LEAD 300 union hopes strike won't be long.
Teachers in District 300 will head to the picket lines instead of their classrooms as LEAD 300 union officials hope it will be a short strike. “I feel we are pretty close,” said Mike Williamson, LEAD spokesman. “I’m not sure they feel the same way. We’d like them to come and meet with us and quickly resolve this. Hopefully we won’t be out long.” Picket lines will be set up at the district’s high schools, including Jacobs High School in Algonquin and the district’s administrative offices in Carpentersville, he said. The outstanding issue is class size and compensation. District 300 schools will be closed Tuesday as teachers strike.
Teachers in Community Unit School District 300 will go on strike Tuesday after the district and the teachers union, LEAD 300, could not reach a tentative contract agreement following a day-long bargaining session Monday. “We’ve been trying all day to avert this,” Mike Williamson, LEAD spokesman said Monday evening. “We began this morning by informing the Board's team that our members had rejected their final offer,” he said. “We hoped they would realize this meant our members needed the Board to make significant movement in order for us to ratify a contract.” The outstanding issues remain class size and compensation. No school Tuesday as District 300 teachers go on strike.
District 300 teachers plan to strike Tuesday following a failed bargaining session between LEAD 300 and the district Monday. There will be no classes. The district alerted parents of the strike. "D300 schools will be closed tomorrow, and all school-sponsored events and activities are cancelled," according to a message the district sent out. "The district will enact its plan tomorrow for Emergency Attendance Centers for students who registered in advance to participate.
