NBC 5 Chicago came to Crystal Lake Friday as part of the Prep Destination of the Week.
in the dark arriving at Central High School before dawn to prepare for the live NBC 5 news broadcast pep rally. Select Crystal Lake South students were also on the field, both schools proud and full of cheer. The morning was filled cheers, shouts, music, and dancing! Central Tigers and South Gators were excited and beaming with energy. Mayor Aaron T. Shepley was there to show support for the schools and for his daughter, Madison, who is Crystal Lake Central Tiger Pom. The NBC 5 morning show was broadcasting short live shots, co-hosted by Rob Elgas (CLC, Class of 1992). The program ended with a live shot of the kids participating in the weekly Dance Friday segment.

Now a co-anchor in Chicago, Elgas admires football in Crystal Lake
No, this Crystal Lake Central graduate won’t be coming home to watch the Crystal Lake South-Crystal Lake Central football game Friday night. He’ll be stuck in Chicago at the NBC studios on Michigan Avenue. But he’s the first one to congratulate the fans of these two rivals. By virtue of 16,000 votes on Facebook, the game is the station’s prep destination of the week. “We will have a crew doing a live remote for our 6 a.m. show,’’ Rob Elgas said. This game hits home for Elgas. After all, he is a 1992 graduate of Crystal Lake Central. The Tigers made the playoffs last year, ending a long drought. The Chicago TV station will be coming to this Friday's match up between Crystal Lake South and Crystal Lake Central.
NBC 5 will be coming to town after Crystal Lake won the Prep Destination of the Week for the matchup Friday between Crystal Lake South at Crystal Lake Central. Prep Destination of the Week is a weekly segment of NBC 5 that highlights football games from local high schools. The Chicago TV station will be at the game this Friday and will air highlights during its Sports Sunday segment. NBC 5 also will be filming its Dance Friday segment. An example of that segment can be found on NBC 5's website.
