Whether nearby or a bit of drive, we have got the scoop on what suburban retailers will be offering for Black Friday deals. The Commons will be giving free gift cards — ranging in value from $10 to $500 — and holiday tote bags away to its first 1,000 shoppers that make it out to the commons on Black Friday morning, according to the Commons' website. Shoppers can also sign up to win a $2,500 shopping spree. Shopping hours vary by store at Algonquin Commons with several retailers starting the sales on Thanksgiving night. Big-box stores aren't the only businesses offering Black Friday deals this holiday season. Check out some of these local businesses offering shopping opportunities throughout the area. Barrington Spend $50 in shoes or boots get $50 in gift certificates from Young Tootsies Children's Shoes in the Ice House Mall. The deal is good through 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3. Customers who spend $75 you are also eligible for $100 gift certificate drawing that is good for all stores there. Learning Express Toys is offering 20 percent off everything through Nov. 28. Some walked away with new computers while others were satisfied with simply stocking up on groceries.
The holiday shopping season has officially begun. At Best Buy this morning, cars swarmed the parking lot and shoppers were greeted by a friendly security guard who wished everyone a good morning. Inside, special discounts on televisions, iPods and computers lured prospective buyers. The store was well-staffed, but employees were not allowed to speak to reporters about the event. Some customers left the store empty-handed, but others, like Rocior Reynoso of Elgin, bought a new desktop computer and printer. This was not her first time shopping on Black Friday morning. Black Friday is typically one of the largest shopping days of the year—and this year will be no different. Stores are opening earlier and offering sales for longer lengths of time. Local retailers predict large numbers and have been preparing stores for weeks already. "As far as preparations go, we are making sure to be fully staffed, plan for long lines and ticketing (of items)," explained Best Buy employee, Tiffany Novak.
