Salon owner Janet Rabig is looking to bring in donations for the Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Interfaith Food Pantry.
Scissor Happy Hair Studio in Algonquin will offer a $5 discount on services for anyone who brings in a donation for the Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Interfaith Food Pantry in November. Janet Rabig, owner of Scissor Happy Hair Studio, said she is hoping to help the food pantry, which serves around 300 local families each month, this holiday season, according to a press release. The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Interfaith Food Pantry has a list of its immediate donation needs on its website. This is not the first time Rabig has used her hair-styling talents to help give back to the community. The Colonial Cafe will be selling pancakes for a penny each to help support the Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Interfaith Food Pantry's capital campaign.
Colonial Cafe in Algonquin will be hosting Penny Pancake Day on Thursday. The event will help raise money for the Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Interfaith Food Pantry, which is looking to move its current facility to a pole barn on Pyott Road and renovate that location. Penny Pancake Day is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday at Colonial Cafe, 2555 Bunker Hill Road, Algonquin, according to Kathy McCoy of the Algonquin/Lake in the Hills food pantry's fundraising committee. Guests who dine in and purchase a beverage will be able to buy pancakes for a penny apiece, McCoy said. LITH Editor Amie Schaenzer gives back as part of a company-wide volunteer day.
Five times a year, Patch editors put down their laptops, step away from their Blackberries and participate in a company-wide volunteer day called Give 5. October 7 was one of those days. So myself, along with Algonquin Patch Editor Savannah Ziegelbauer, visited the Lake in the Hills/Algonquin Interfaith Food Pantry, at 600 E. Oak St. in Lake in the Hills to lend a hand. The food pantry has been around for the past 10 years and provides those in need of assistance a bag or two (or three or four, depending on family size) of food from the shelves of the pantry that is set up like a mini-grocery store.
