No Valid Driver's License/Accident Police arrested a 24-year-old Crystal Lake man at 10:03 p.m. Saturday on charges of driving without a valid driver's license, improper lane use and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident at Virginia and Rakow roads. Reckless Conduct Lake in the Hills Police arrested a 17-year-old Huntley boy at Taco Bell, 231 N. Randall Road, about 2:14 a.m. Sunday on charges of reckless conduct, driving under the influence of alcohol and illegal consumption of alcohol. The teen was turned over to a parent. Driving while license suspended: A 41-year-old Lake in the Hills woman was stopped on Acorn Lane and Randall Road and charged with driving while license suspended, at 8:10 a.m., Thursday. She was released on bond. Wanted on warrant: On July 28, a 53-year-old Lake in the Hills man was charged for being wanted on a warrant out of Kane County for failure to appear for driving while license suspended. He was released on a $300 bond. Meat stolen: Police received a report of $100 of meat stolen from Dominick’s, 101 N. Randall Rd., on July 27. A crossbar of an electrical pole fell on the man, who is from Lyons, Wis., while he was working at the intersection of Crystal Lake Avenue and East Street.
A 53-year-old Lyons, Wis., man was killed in Crystal Lake Tuesday when a crossbar of an electrical pole struck him in the head. Kelly Skiles, a Commonwealth Edison employee, was with a crew at the intersection of Crystal Lake Avenue and East Street when the accident happened, according to ComEd spokeswoman Alicia Zatkowski. Zatkowski declined to comment further, saying only that the incident was under investigation. Crystal Lake Fire Rescue responded to the scene at 1:42 p.m. and requested Flight for Life to transport Skiles to Centegra Hospital in McHenry. McHenry County Coroner Marlene Lantz said the medical staff worked on his injuries until 2:22 p.m., when he was pronounced dead. For more on this story, visit Crystal Lake Patch.

An area man received a citation this morning after he collided into a McHenry County Sheriff's Department squad car. The crash occurred at 9 a.m. at the intersection of Route 31 and Crystal Lake Avenue in Crystal Lake, according to a McHenry County Sheriff's Department press release. The squad car, according to the press release, was stopped at traffic light when it was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by an Aurora man. The McHenry County Sheriff's Department officer was transported to Centegra Medical Center where he was treated and released. The Illinois State Police investigated the crash and cited the Aurora man with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. The Aurora man was not injured during the crash and did not seek …

A Crystal Lake woman vacationing in the Florida Keys is lucky to be alive after a 300-pound eagle ray jumped out of the water and into her boat, knocking her down, according to local media reports. The eagle landed on top of Jenny Hausch, of Crystal Lake, while she was on a boat tour with her family, the Northwest Herald and Daily Herald are reporting. Hausch was able to walk away from the incident without any serious injuries. According to media reports, not all who have witnessed similar close-up encounters have been so lucky. A barb, similar to the barbs on eagles rays, killed "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin, according to the Daily Herald article. Drunken Driving Arrest A 26-year-old Crystal Lake man was pulled over in the area of Crystal Lake Road and Hilltop Drive around 3:36 a.m. Monday and arrested on drunken driving charges. The man was also cited for disregarding a stop sign and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. He was later released on bond. Crashes on Randall Road Monday Three separate crashes occurred at intersections on Randall Road on Monday. Over 100 accidents occurred at three intersections along the mile stretch of Randall Road in Lake in the Hills in 2010, according to statistics released by the Lake in the Hills Police Department. Those intersections marked the top three most-likely spots for an accident to occur in the village in 2010, according to the statistics. In total, 42 crashes happened at the intersection of Randall Road and Acorn Lane, 30 accidents occurred at Randall Road and Algonquin Road and police responded to 30 crashes at Randall Road and Miller Road. I have to comment that I was recently rear-ended in ALGONQUIN...while in heavy traffic northbound on Randall Road approaching Bunker Hill intersection. It was a "hit and run", but, since my damage is less than $1,500, the Algonquin Police Department did not file a report even though I had the car's license plate and a description of the vehicle.
