Find out when the Woodstock, Crystal Lake and Huntley farmers markets, as well as several other area farmers markets, will be opening for the summer season.
Area farmers markets will soon be re-opening for the summer season, bring with plenty of fresh, locally-grown produce. The Woodstock Farmers Market, one of the largest in the area, will open this Saturday, May 4. The market will be open for the outdoor season from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday and Tuesday at the Woodstock Square. A full list of 2013 Woodstock Farmers Market vendors can be found on the market's website. The Crystal Lake Farmers Market will open for the summer season on Saturday, June 1. The market will be open every Saturday through Oct. 1 in Depot Park, near the downtown Metra Train Depot, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. This year, the first Huntley Farmers Market will be held on Saturday, May 25. Northern Illinois residents, get ready to ride the weather roller coaster yet again this week. Temperatures in the mid-40s, rain and possibly even shovel-worthy snow are all in the forecast for Feb. 18-24. The week will start out with mild temperatures for Presidents' Day, with a high of around 46. There's a 90 percent chance of rain on Monday, then a chance of snow showers after 9 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Chicago. Monday night will also be sharply colder, with a forecast low around 16 and a wind chill as low as 1. Brrr! There's a chance for flurries on Tuesday with a high near 20. NBC's top-rated summer show will be holding auditions in Chicago at McCormick Place on Jan. 26 and Jan. 27.
Last season, "American's Got Talent" had three unique finalists: A comedian, a family dog act and a one-of-a-kind musical instrument. The winner? A group of dogs that danced, performed jump rope tricks and even some gymnastics. "Chicago is an important city for 'America's Got Talent,'" said senior casting producer Jason Shuler. "We have had several top talent audition at our Chicago open calls. Among them are Chicago group Footworkingz and the piano player from Edon from our most current season." Director Steven Spielberg's historical drama "Lincoln" earned a leading 12 nominations Thursday for the 85th Annual Academy Awards, followed by Ang Lee's "Life of Pi" with 11, while the musical "Les Miserables," directed by Tom Hooper, and David O. Russell's "Silver Linings Playbook" tied with eight nods each. "Lincoln" was nominated for best picture and gave Spielberg his eighth best director nomination.
