Peter Roskam wins the 2012 General Election in Illinois' 6th Congressional District.
U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL) won re-election in Illinois' 6th Congressional District Tuesday over Leslie Coolidge after getting 30,864 more votes than the his challenger, with all precincts reporting. Roskam said he plans to be a part of turning the economy around, and his work on the House Ways and Means Committee will be a platform to do so. "Our tax code is a disaster, and most Americans recognize that it’s a disaster," he said Tuesday at Arrowhead Golf Club in Wheaton. "And most Americans are very open to trying to reform the code." The first presidential debate between Gov. Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama was held Wednesday night in Denver.
Some saw Gov. Mitt Romney as the clear winner of last night's presidential debate, citing President Barack Obama's "weak performance" and inability to press Romney on some of the key isssues in his campaign so far. Others thought Romney started out strong though Obama pulled ahead in the end. Still others believed neither presidential candidate should be credited with a win. Citing speeches by Sen. Marco Rubio, vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan and celebrity Clint Eastwood, 94 percent of Republicans surveyed by Patch said their party's National Convention provided the party with the momentum it needs to get the base to turn out for what is expected to be a close election. That's part of the results from a recent Land of Lincoln survey issued by Patch in the Chicago area. Ninety-three Republicans were surveyed, with 30 responding. Most Republican respondents mentioned the Rubio and Ryan speeches as highlights of the convention, while one respondent said "Mitt Romney just did OK." Illinois Democrats and Republicans both believe the selection of U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisconsin) as Mitt Romney's running mate will energize their party's voters in the 2012 presidential election. That's the general feeling gathered from the Land of Lincoln survey issued by Patch in the Chicago area. Ninety-three Republicans and 89 Democrats were surveyed, though only 14 and nine replied, respectively, by the time of publication. About 77 percent of Republicans who responded said they believe the Ryan selection will galvanize Illinois Republicans, while 87 percent of Democratic respondents said the choice will bring together their voters against Ryan. Sue Klinkhamer wins the Democrat primary for Kane County Chairman Tuesday night, according to unofficial results.
Sue Klinkhamer, with about a 1,300 vote lead over opponent Bill Sarto, took the Kane County Chairman Democrat primary Tuesday, with all precincts reporting. Klinkhamer on Tuesday took a cautious position on the results, pointing to a "good margin of victory" in Aurora's results. The former St. Charles mayor ran an unconventional "anti-campaign" through the primary, refusing to take funding or put forth much of the same efforts candidates generally do in local politics. Barrington Hills resident Leslie Coolidge has won the Democratic nomination to compete against Republican incumbent Peter Roskam for the 6th Congressional district seat. Beating out her two opponents, Geoffrey Petzel and Maureen Yates, Coolidge thanked her volunteers and supporters Tuesday around 9:15 p.m. at Cooper's Hawk in South Barrington. “We’re here because of the work of everyone in the room,” Coolidge said.
