Former Lake in the Hills Village President Dies
Monday, March 12, 2012
The deadline for applications is Thursday, March 15.
Algonquin’s Ted Spella Leadership School is partnering with the Lake in the Hills Community Leadership School and the Algonquin/LITH Chamber of Commerce to establish the new Leadership Academy. The Ted Spella Leadership School, named after the former Algonquin village president, started six years ago as a way to get people involved in local government, said Russell Farnum, community development director of Algonquin. “The school was designed as a pre-training for people who wanted to run for village board,” Farnum said. “It was a way to get people involved in local government and teach them how it functions.” Lake in the Hills started their Community Leadership School at the same time, which mirrored that of Algonquin. The Algonquin and …

Jennifer Kearns touched many lives in her 19 years. The Huntley woman, who died last week, will be laid to rest Wednesday.
His name was Ben. I can’t remember his last name without digging through a yearbook packed away in some box somewhere. He died in a car accident the summer after graduation. This summer will be 25 years ago that he died. I didn’t know him well, but I remember him as a nice guy. I also remember what he looked like and how he was a friendly, popular, smart 18-year-old with a bright future. Jennifer Kearns’s former classmates will remember her too, years from now. The 19-year-old will be remembered as a friendly, kind girl with a bright smile. She will be remembered as forever young, even as they age and their memories blur. Death is never easy to understand but wrapping our minds around the death of someone so young is often …

The village of Lake in the Hills continues to educate residents on the importance of shopping in town as a way to better the community and economy.
In recent years, the village of Lake in the Hills has made a push to encourage residents to keep their holiday shopping dollars in the village. The Shop Lake in the Hills campaign is meant to educate residents on the importance of shopping in town, since a portion of the sales tax dollars spent in the village goes back into the community in the form of capital projects and by providing better services for residents, according to the Shop Lake in the Hills website. "... Shopping locally is like reinvesting your dollars back into the community where you live," according to a press release on the village's website. "You also enhance the local economy by strengthening the local businesses and potentially expanding employment opportunities…

Former District 158 Board Member Larry Snow Dies
Monday, August 15, 2011
Announcement comes through e-mail to board members.
It was a shock Monday when someone sent along an e-mail saying that Jean Weems had died. I have no details, but we'll share any information as becomes available. If you'd ever visited County Board Chairman Karen McConnaughay, you met with Jean. She was clearly so competent, so throughly kind and in-the-know, that the office of the County Board chairman and the Kane County Board as a whole was enhanced by her presence. The e-mail described her as "the glue that held together the County Board Office." "It is our sad duty to inform you that Jean Weems, executive assistant to County Board Chairman Karen McConnaughay, has passed away," the e-mail said. "Jean had been a Kane County employee for over 17 years. Her hard work, dedication and …

She was a very nice girl indeed, the ceremony at the church had a 3 hour long line. Every second was worth staying to give that last goodbye. Jen was one of the sweetest girls you could ever talk to.   more ›
