Konrad's Bakery is without a doubt a breath of fresh air. The quality is superior and the prices are appropriate. One reason for someone to be negative about these two issues would be never being exposed to baked goods other than from a Jewel, Wal-Mart, or Aldi. For years our family and extended family have traveled to Chicago and close-in suburbs to purchase specialty pastries and baked goods. That is no longer the case. Konrad's cakes are wonderful and fruit filled items spilling over with fresh fruit. Items with cream have real cream, custard filling is real cooked custard not instant pudding. Pie crust is the closest to my own, without the work. My husband stopped at the store three days ago and came home with an apple cake. It tasted homemade and was filled with fresh apples not from a can. I wouldn't hesitate to serve any of their items, whether just for my husband and me or for a special occasion.
The price of some of the pastry may seem high, however, the coffee cakes are so large that we serve half and freeze the other half. The same is true of nearly every item. I would prefer to pay a slightly higher price for the very best . You won't find artificial custards and fake cream.
I am so thankful that we found this gem in our own back yard.
PS: For the chocolate lover, try their "Suicide Chocolate Cake".
