Eagle Scout Recognized at Recent Village Board Meeting

Huntley High School student Joey Perrone recognized for project that he supervised, which was meant to benefit homeless women.

A 17-year-old Lake in the Hills boy was recognized Thursday night by the Lake in the Hills Village Board for attaining the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank that can be achieved by a Boy Scout.

Joey Perrone's Eagle project -- the big task required before the badge can be awarded -- was supervising the construction of two sandboxes that are being used by the children of homeless women in the Home of the Sparrow program.

Village President Ed Plaza read a proclamation recognizing Perrone, who attends Huntley High School, for achieving his goal. He also recognized Boy Scouts in general for their good deeds.

A member of Troop 167, Perrone wore a sash with 24 merit badges. His favorite was his shotgun merit badge he earned after just few hours shooting skeet at a range near Aurora. He said he had a knack for knocking down clay pigeons.

In the audience at Village Hall were his father and mother, Joe and Tricia Perrone, and his sisters, Jenny, 15, and Julia, 9.

"Scouting builds confidence," Perrone said after the board meeting. "I learned what it is to be a leader."

"I'm very proud," his father said.

Perrone said will attend college following high school and has already been accepted by several universities.
