Honoring Memorial Day

Originally known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day started following the Civil War in 1866 as a way for soldiers to remember their fallen comrades.

This upcoming Monday will mark Memorial Day on all of our calendars. This is a terrific day to take time out of your busy schedule to relax and reflect on what this holiday means for all of us. Originally known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day started following the Civil War in 1866 as a way for soldiers to remember their fallen comrades. This practice was soon adopted by the nation as a whole. It began to be celebrated on the last Monday of May and the name was changed to Memorial Day.

While this holiday does give many of us that much-needed day off of work or just the extra reason to relax more over the weekend, make sure you take time to remember what this day is really about. Dedicate just a few minutes of your day to remember the soldiers that have fought and fallen for our flag throughout our country’s 235 years of existence. Memorial Day can serve as a great time to show your appreciation and memories for any relatives or special members of your life who have passed on and the day can be filled with happy memories as you honor your loved ones. So while you are spending your weekend outside enjoying the weather by grilling or just taking the time to relax, remember the sacrifices that have been made for you by those who have passed on.
