Villages, Library Partner to Offer Free Outdoor Movie Nights this Summer

The first free outdoor movie night will be this Friday at Indian Trail Beach.

A partnership between the villages of Algonquin and Lake in the Hills and Algonquin Area Public Library will make two free outdoor movie nights possible this summer.

The first outdoor movie will feature the movie Rango at 8:45 p.m. on Friday, June 15 at the in Lake in the Hills. Rango is the story of a sheltered chameleon that ends up as sheriff in a town named Dirt.

The second movie will feature the movie Happy Feet Two at 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, near Ted Spella Park and the located on Harnish Drive.

Happy Feet Two is the story of Mumble, who discovers there is a new threat to his home. This movie night was purposefully scheduled right before Algonquin’s Founders Day.

“We thought it would be a nice kickoff to that week,” said Virginia Freyre, community outreach librarian for Algonquin Public Library. “We thought a weeknight would be great so people could just hang out on the library lawn.”

This is not the first year the Lake in the Hills Parks and Recreation Department has hosted an outdoor movie, however this is the first year the Algonquin Area Public Library and Algonquin Events and Recreation Department have joined in on the event.

“This is a nice way to get more residents to come to the events and to keep these towns together, rather then separate,” Freyre said.

The movies will be shown on a large projection screen. Those who attend are urged to bring snacks, blankets or chairs, and bug spray.

“It’s a great night, and it’s free so people can really enjoy the entertainment,” said Andrew Gemmell, superintendent of recreation at the village of Lake in the Hills.

Noodles and Company, located in Lake in the Hills, will be handing out free samples and coupons at the event as well.

“It is something that Noodles does to get our name out and let people know that we are here,” said Kathy Balacek, general manager of the Lake in the Hills Noodles and Company. “We just want to be part of our community.”

If bad weather occurs, the outdoor movie nights may be rescheduled to the day after they were originally supposed to occur, at the same time and location.

I am very disappointed. I bought a groupon recently and I redeemed it at the store, but they gaveRead More me a gift card for the remaining balance. What do I do with this gift card now?
