"I honestly cannot wait to go back home. I am very excited to go back home so I can see and thank so many of the people from back home that have supported me throughout this entire season," Evan Jager in a recently told Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Patch in and e-mail Q&A.

Other items planned for Wednesday's event include:

  • 3:30 p.m.: Speeches
  • 3:55 p.m.: Fight Song
  • 4 p.m.: Autograph signing and photo opportunities with Evan

Also planned for the event is an interview from Joe Stevenson of the Northwest Herald — who has covered Jager for several years — and a performance from Jacobs cheer or dance team, Weber said.

Around 1,000 people are expect to attend the event.

Weber said one of the aspects of Jager is that unlike other elite athletes who will enlist in travel teams and do not typically train with high school teams, Jager spent all four years running for Jacobs.

"He was a golden eagle and he obviously represented us very well. And we want to give back to him," Weber said.
