Local Runners Headed to State

Jacobs High School junior Lauren Van Vlierbergen captured a first place finished at the Class 3A Aurora sectional and will now be headed to state. 

Van Vlierbergen led the pack at the meet with a time of of 17:50. The Jacobs High School girls cross-country team finished in ninth place overall at the meet. 

The Naperville North girls cross-country team won the team title at the Aurora sectional with six of its runners finishing in the top twenty at the meet, according to the IHSA.

Huntley High School sophomore Keagan Smith finished in fourth place at the sectional with a time of 15:35 and earned himself a trip to the state meet. The Huntley High School team finished 11th overall. 

Jacobs High School senior Matthew Johnson will also be headed to state after qualifying as an individual after finishing in 12th place at the Aurora sectional with a time of 15:49, according to the IHSA results page. 

The Jacobs High School boys cross-country team placed ninth overall at the meet.

The Wheaton Warrenville South team won the sectional team title and senior Joseph Emmanuel of Wheaton North High School won the individual sectional title with a time of 15:17. 

The state boys and girls cross-country meet will be held on Nov. 9 at Detweiller Park in Peoria.
