Lake in the Hills Pond Hockey Tournament a Success

Outdoor pond hockey tournament in Lake in the Hills drew 13 teams from throughout the Chicago area.

A hometown team won the 2014 championship title at the Lake in the Hills Pond Hockey Tournament this past Saturday.

Comprised of players from Lake in the Hills, the "Toews and Confused" team beat out 13 other teams in the 4-on-4 tournament held on Woods Creek Lake, according to LITH recreation supervisor Trevor Bosack.

"The tournament went well," Bosack said. "The guys enjoyed themselves, and we got a lot of positive feedback from the players."

Bosack said the steady snowfall Saturday afternoon meant organizers had to stop and shovel the rinks several times. And the teams agreed to switch playing sides during every half, to be fair.

The outdoor tournament was the second pond hockey competition held in Lake in the Hills. The first was held in January 2011. The tournament was canceled the past two years due to unseasonably warm weather and lack of ice.

This year, teams haled from Chicago, Arlington Heights, Oakwood Hills, Huntley Crystal Lake and Lake in the Hills. The event started at 8 a.m. near Indian Trail Beach and ended at about 3:30 p.m.
