The face-off is the varsity team's first game back after the holidays since South played on Dec. 14. The layoff was long for C.C.M., as well, as the team hasn't been in action since Dec. 18.

The crosstown rivalry promises to be exciting for players and fans alike. The puck drops at 5:10 pm at the Crystal Ice House, 320 Prairie St., Crystal Lake.

C.C.M. is a combined team comprised of players from Crystal Lake Central, McHenry, Dundee-Crown, Richmond-Burton and Johnsburg high schools.  In the teams’ previous meeting, South jumped out to 7-0 lead midway through the second period and never looked back, on route to a 7-2 decision.

Since that game, however, C.C.M. has been one of the hottest teams in Metro Central, losing only once in its next 10 games, going 4-1-5 (13 points) during the stretch. The only loss being a 2-1 setback against Maine Township. The 10-game stretch included a win against Carmel, which currently resides only two points behind the Gators in third place and a 1-1 tie against Barrington.

During that same stretch of games, the Gators went 7-4 (14 points), with two of their better performances coming just prior to the break.

Friday night’s game will feature plenty of stars as the teams combine for 10 All-Star Metro Central selections. CCM's lineup features forwards Cody Ringham and Anthony Casaletto along with the defensive pair of Tanner Ridenour and Patrick Maloney.

All-Star Metro selections from the Gators include forwards Jake Bigos, Joey Bower and Jordan Ross, defenseman Jack Moehling and the goaltending tandem of Ben Allison and Adam Wiese.
