Evan Jager, a Jacobs High School graduate, won the men's 3000-meter steeplechase at the USA Track and Field Championships this past weekend in Des Moines, according to the USA Track and Field website.
Jager finished the race in 8:20.67 and will now move on to represent Team USA at the IAAF World Championships Aug. 10 to Aug. 18 in Moscow, Russia. Jager competed in the summer Olympics last year in London and holds the U.S. record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:06.81.
Jager had only competed in the steeplechase a handful of times before qualifying for the Olympics last year.
