Cary Ski Jumper Mike Glasder Still Aiming for Sochi

Cary's own Mike Glasder has high hopes of making the U.S. Olympic Men's Ski Jumping Team for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.

Cary ski jumper Mike Glasder continues his quest to make the U.S. Olympic Men's Ski Jumping team, with hopes of competing in the upcoming 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.

Glasder, a current member of the U.S. Ski Jumping Team and product of Norge Ski Club in Fox River Grove, competed this past Sunday, Dec. 29, in the Olympic Trials for the U.S. Men's and Women's Ski Jumping teams held at Utah Olympic Park in Park City, Utah.

Glasder finished in fourth place at the trials, according to the Northwest Herald. His training partner, Nicholas Fairall, won the Park City competition, thereby earning himself an automatic slot on the four-member U.S jumping team.

With one spot already taken, Glasder and his other U.S. teammates are competing for the remaining three open positions over the next few weeks. The rest of the team will be officially named on Jan. 22.

According to the Mike Glasder Ski Jumping Facebook page, the Cary resident has flown to Ljubljana, Slovenia and will participate in upcoming qualifying competitions in Poland, France, and then Japan.
