Jacobs Graduate Competes for Olympic Spot

Evan Jager will be compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase U.S. Track and Field finals in Eugene, Oreg., on Thursday.

Algonquin native Evan Jager will be competing for a spot on the U.S. Track & Field Olympic team Thursday. 

Jager, a 2007 graduate of Jacobs High School, placed sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase during semifinals on Sunday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oreg., with a time of 8:30.60 and qualified for the finals. The first-place runner, Daniel Huling, finished in 8:29. 

Jager, 23, is a part of the Nike/Oregon Track Club and lives in Portland, Oreg., according to his profile on the USATF website.

The steeplechase finals will be held Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Pacific time, according to the U.S. Track & Field website. Jager will be starting in lane 13

The NBC Sports Network is expected to televise the U.S. Track and Field finals, including the mens 3,000-meter steeplechase—from 8 to 10 p.m. on Thursday.
