2 Schools, 1 Team, 1 Dream 2 Rule the Pool

Jacobs/Dundee-Crown boys swimming gears up for Saturday's Fox Valley conference meet with hopes to advance to State.

2 Schools, 1 Team, 1 Dream 2 Rule the Pool.

That’s the motto of the Jacobs/Dundee-Crown co-op boys swimming team this season. The two schools have shared a boys swimming team for over a decade now and have an opportunity at Saturday’s Fox Valley Conference Meet at Woodstock North to win a conference title.

The team is led by Coach Rick Andersen, who, in his seventh year at the helm has several swimmers who could win a conference championship. And if all goes well, they also have the potential of making it to the state meet.

In addition to a select few individuals who have a chance of making it to state, Andersen said there is the potential for some team chances.

“Senior Ryan Krug has shown a lot of leadership this year,” Andersen said. “He’s done a great job, he has been working really hard and swimming well. It’s great having a team leader like Ryan to help things out."

Alex Elston, who is a junior, was a state qualifier last year in the 100 fly and he is on track to go back to state this year in the butterfly and possibly other event, Andersen said. "We also got a outside shot at the medley relay and the 200 free relay.”

Andersen added that there is a freshman who may surprise as well.

“We got Alex Reinbrecht swimming real well right now and has been swimming the IM and 500 freestyle,” Andersen said. “He went from a 5:08 to a 5:00 on Tuesday so if he can drop another 12 seconds and it’s 500 yards so it’s a lot of time, he could make state in the 500. You never know what he is libel to do, he is a very emotional swimmer, he can get fired up and do some good things so we will see how that all goes.”

On Thursday against Woodstock co-op, Krug won the 500 freestyle by 17 seconds over his nearest competitor in a time of 5:10 along with helping win the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. Elston finished first in four different events during the team’s 87-83 win over Woodstock, along with helping Krug win the 200 freestyle relay, Elston was a part of the 200 medley relay and won the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Reinbrecht didn’t swim in the 500 freestyle Thursday but was part of the 200 and 400 freestyle relay wins and also won the 100 backstroke and 200 freestyle.

Saturday’s FVC Meet gets underway at 1 p.m. at Woodstock North High School.
